COBB COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS 1995 BOND ISSUE FACILITIES IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
Cobb County, Georgia

Facilty Group provided program management services to implement and manage new
construction and renovation projects for 96 facilities in the Cobb County Public School (CCPS)
Facilities Improvement Program. The $280 million program provided the school system with new
classrooms, classroom additions, major facility renovations, as well as improvements in
maintenance, furniture, equipment and technology. Midway through the program, the School
Board decided to "privatize" its in-house facilities department as part of an overall strategic look
at operational support versus instructional functions. Facilty Group absorbed key facilities
staff and integrated them into the PM team, thereby augmenting the firm's existing expertise with
knowledge gained from professionals who were intimately familiar with the Owner's program,
issues and concerns. As a result, the project remained ahead of schedule by as much as six (6)
months for the duration of the contract. In addition, change orders on the 43 major construction
projects totaled only 2.64%, well below the Georgia Department of Education's 5% allocation for
new construction and 10% for renovation work.
